Why is backflow testing important?
Backflow testing is crucial in a commercial building because it ensures that the building’s water supply remains safe and uncontaminated. Backflow occurs when water flows in the opposite direction from its intended path, which can allow contaminants like chemicals, bacteria, or debris to enter the potable (drinkable) water supply. This can happen due to changes in water pressure, like a sudden drop from a main water line break or high demand.
How long does a backflow test usually take?
Our experience has shown that a backflow test typically takes 20 to 30 minutes from start to finish. Long Island Backflow recommends an annual comprehensive backflow test to ensure compliance with local building safety standards. What are you checking for during a backflow test?
Our technicians check for proper operation of check valves, pressure levels, relief valve functionality, Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) device testing, visual check for damage or wear and tear, and monitor backflow response during simulated testing. Regular testing confirms that each component of the prevention device is working as designed to safeguard water quality and meet health and safety regulations.
